What does your business do?
We provide press release writing, sales and marketing copy, article writing, letter writing, technical writing, website copy, translation services and many other writing services. We pride ourselves on our talent, reasonable prices and impeccable customer service.

When and why did you start the biz?
JBC Online E-Publshing has been publishing and selling e-books since August of 2002, and branched out in 2003 to include writing services, since its employees have all been working as freelance writers and translaters anyway. We all joined together with our collective writing and translating talent, to form one solid place where we can really show our skill.

Where's your office?
My home office is a condensed, professional, high-impact work station in the comfort of my own home. It is set up with all the technology, space, and resources that I need, all at arm's length from my comfortable blue retro desk chair.

What's the toughest part of running your biz?
The toughest part of the job is the fact that I never know what tomorrow will be. Equally, that is my favorite part of running this business.

What's the most fun part?
I love the fact that every day is different. Tomorrow will never be the same as today, and neither will the day after. I get to be my own boss, work at my own pace, and maximize my writing skill, making it better, and enjoying it with every passing day.

Anything you would have done differently?
I love the way that I have proceeded so far. I did as much research as I could before I got started, and then hit the business world with gusto.

What's next on the horizon for your biz?
I intend to join a number of writing directories and work companies, to maximize the potential of the new writing branch of JBC Online E-Publishing

What advice do you have for others?
Writing is an extremely exclusive and disheartening business. Know what you can do, and make sure everyone knows that you're as good as you say you are!

How do you use Idea Cafe to help your biz?
The resources, advice and comparitive companies are excellent opportunities for fine tuning and really bringing my business to life. With the combination of informative newsletters, exposure, reciprocal links with other members, grant ideas and oodles of other chances for inspiration, Idea Cafe is what will truly bring JBC Online E-Publishing's potential to fruition.

York University -- Bilingual Bachelor of Arts (English and French), Majoring in Canadian Studies

Prior jobs or business?
I have worked in customer service, staff training for a call centre, freelance writing, editing, translating, publishing, media relations, website design and upkeep.

Favorite Food?
Pasta with white sauce

What are your pets' names?
Rascal, the golden retriever, died two weeks ago. Now I have Athos and Aramis (Athos ate Porthos).

Do any of these pets help with your biz?
My dog was my calming centre; I intend to get a new pooch within a year. My fish are a good laugh. (They're bitter, nasty fish.)

Is there any one person or event in your life that led you to go into business for yourself?
This adventure was completely self-motivated. I began as soon as I finished university, not being satisfied with the entry level positions that were available to me. I went straight from entry level to owner/president and have never looked back. My friends and family have been entirely supportive along the way, and I couldn't have done it without them.
